Local Places of Interest

As a guest at the Goodenough Club you will be staying right in the heart of Bloomsbury, one of London's prime academic and cultural locations.  It's one of the greenest parts of London with plenty of parks and open squares. We are within 10 minute walk from King's Cross Station and the Eurostar links at St Pancras which connects the UK to mainland Europe via the Channel Tunnel. Our nearest Tube station is Russell Square.

We are within walking distance of The British Museum, Sir John Soames Museum and the British Library with their world-class collections. The Dickens Museum and the historic Foundling Hospital at Coram Fields are just a few hundred metres away.

We are also very close to major London Universities and colleges, such as Senate House (University of London), Birkbeck, the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), London School of Economics (LSE) and The London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. The world famous Great Ormond Street Hospital is a short walk away.

The Brunswick Centre with a range of shops and restaurants is less than a five minute walk. It boasts an Art House Cinema, 10 different restaurants, a great supermarket and a variety of interesting shops. The surrounding streets are full of cafes, bars and bookshops. Lamb Conduit Street and Marchmont Street are among the most characterful in London.

The area is associated with Charles Darwin (1809-1882), Charles Dickens (1812-1870), John Maynard Keynes (1883-1946) E M Forster (1879-1970) and Virginia Woolf (1892-1941). Woolf once lived on Mecklenburgh Square and Graham Greene stayed on the Square when writing 'The Power and The Glory.'

An annual arts festival is held each autumn.
